The Queensland Government Department of Transport and Main Roads, plans, designs, builds and maintains 34,000 km of state-controlled roads. Recently the department became very concerned that the main Nerang Murwillumbah Road near the Gold Coast had become an unofficial (and illegal) racetrack for motorcyclists during the weekends, with lots of fatalities as a result.
