The ancient city of Cologne is the fourth largest in Germany and dates back to the Roman colonisation in the first century AD. The City's waste management company, Abfallwirtsschaftsbetriebe Köln GmbH & Co. KG (AWB Köln) became an independent company in 2001 and is responsible for cleaning 437,000km of streets and emptying more than 13,000 litter bins.
AWB first contacted Glasdon in 2008 with a specific requirement for combined litter/ash waste bins to be installed at bus stops in suburban Cologne. After trials with a number of designs and companies, AWB chose the Integro Litter Bin from Glasdon.
Integro Litter Bin is purpose-designed for the segregated collection of litter and cigarette waste. Twin 3-litre liners will hold up to 2,000 cigarette butts in total, and a main bin volume of 110 litres reduces the need for frequent emptying. Integro's slimline footprint makes it perfect for locating on narrow pavements without restricting pedestrian access.
Integro Litter Bins have been in use in Cologne for almost five years now, and hundreds of the containers line the streets. Cologne's streets are kept clear of litter, and smokers in the city never need to look too far to find somewhere to extinguish their cigarettes responsibly.
