Glasdon Go Solar to Drive Down CO2

Glasdon Group Ltd has invested in a new solar PV system to reduce the company’s CO2 emissions by the equivalent of driving over a million miles by car.

The market leading supplier of environmental and safety products, installed 120 solar panels at Glasdon House on Preston New Road in a bid to cut C02 by an estimated 278 tonnes over the next 25 years.

Martin Wallwork, Assistant Property Manager for Glasdon Group Limited said:

“Passion for the environment and commitment towards protecting it are part of our DNA. At the core our products are designed to improve public spaces and enhance water and road safety to protect the environment and help our customers practice sustainability.

“We invest considerably in product innovation to ensure we are at the forefront of sustainable product design and the investment in our own buildings and business practices is a reflection of the strong sense of responsibility we hold for protecting the environment.

“Glasdon House uses approximately 45,000kWh of energy per year. It is estimated that the 30kWp solar PV system will generate over half of this at around 21,660kWh of electricity in the first year.

“We will directly save on our consumption at Glasdon House by using approximately 36% (7,800kWh) of the energy produced from the panels. The surplus renewable energy being exported directly into the national grid.”

The European Union’s 2020 target for the UK states that 15% of energy consumed should come from renewable energy sources.

Department of Energy and Climate Change figures report the number of solar PV sites in the North West stood at 54,583 as at 31st December 2014.

Glasdon Group Limited is accredited under ISO 14001, the internationally recognised Environmental Management System.
