A multi-disability swimming club dedicated to promoting swimming for individuals with disabilities.
For 23 years, the Blackpool Polar Bears have operated from Moor Park Health and Leisure Centre, Blackpool, offering swimming lessons to individuals over the age of five with a registered disability, bringing together families, carers and other organisations to participate in recreational, leisure and social activities.
They operate an open-door policy, encouraging new community members to use facilities that would typically be inaccessible to them. This has effectively cultivated strong relationships with neighbouring respite centres, schools and mainstream swimming clubs, offering members opportunities to further their skills in the community.
The charity relies on a dedicated group of volunteers and skilled support personnel who are required to complete IOS (Institute of Swimming) training courses. These trained individuals are essential for the club to ensure guest safety and maintain its operations.
The DJ Sidebottom / Glasdon Charitable Programme has committed to supporting The Blackpool Polar Bears by funding the IOS training of three volunteers as Level 1 Qualified Assistant Swimming Teachers. This will ensure the ongoing success and long-term viability of this beloved club.
The DJ Sidebottom/Glasdon Charitable Programme provides support for charities and community projects with donations, grants and fundraising initiatives. All activities are funded by Glasdon Group Limited, with the full support of our Founder and Chairman, Donald J Sidebottom MBE, FCIHT and the Board of Directors. Applications for grants and support can be made on our grant application page.
